If you are checking for genealogical information a good place to start looking is property records. Unlike other records one does not know exactly what type of information they could find on a deed as when people bought property ears back a person needed to be identified properly so one can find all sorts of additional information that you would not find anywhere else.
If you are checking for genealogical information a good place to start looking is property records. Unlike other records one does not know exactly what type of information they could find on a deed as when people bought property ears back a person needed to be identified properly so one can find all sorts of additional information that you would not find anywhere else.
Valuable information such as several family members might be mentioned as well as others and you may find dates of birth and places of birth as well as their occupations. This can help one to trace back their ancestry and where their ancestors originated from. Due to property ownership being of great importance one will find copies at any local courthouse as the originals copies were kept by the owners.
Another good place to start looking is at the land registry offices where your ancestors lived as there should be records in their deeds books. Many years ago before computers came about clerks in the deeds offices registered property into deeds books. However if you have time and are able to visit a deeds office you will not only spend hours looking through these books but will also pick up other valuable information.
Once you have found the deeds then you should be able to find the property on a local survey map if this proves difficult there are clerks at the deeds offices that can interpret the properties whereabouts. Or you can alternatively make use of a software program that can map out the property on old land deed information.
Property records can also be found online although this is not as much fun as going into the deeds office but it saves one time if you require the documents urgently. Here are many websites services that will gladly do a property search although one needs to pay for these services.
